Personal Opinion about Indonesia Nuclear Power Plant

This is my own "Personal Opinion" about Indonesia Nuclear Power Plant.

INDONESIA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

Did you know or ever heard that Indonesia will build a Nuclear Power Plant?

Yes, since 1980s Indonesia's government has planned to build Nuclear Power Plant as the electricity power source. We can see, there are more advantages of Nuclear Power Plant compared with the disadvantages. But these disadvantages have big effect, even bigger than the advantages that we will get.

Especially when there is a radioactive leak. Like what we know, there is a history of a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on April 26th, 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread up to western of Uni Soviet and Europe. The Chernobyl disaster is considered to the worst nuclear` power plant accident in history.

This is what am I thinking of that if government really want to build NPP, don't they ever think that Indonesia potentially occurs high-scale earthquake because it has so many volcanoes and Indonesia is at the meeting of 3 earth's crust plates area, like Eurasian plate, Pacific plate, and India-Australia plate. How can we believe in our government about our safety after the construction of Indonesia Nuclear Power Plant?

 Like what just happened at The Fukushima Nuclear power plant. After the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, there is a nuclear leak and caused the release of radioactive material in Fukushima Daichi NPP. We still can feel the effects until now.

After we know how big the effect of radiation because of nuclear leak is, I think it's not worth it, with the advantages that we get.

For human, the effect of radiation can attack our healthy, like the brain's cell damage, thyroid, the damage of blood vessels, even the radiation victim can get infertility and/or genetic disorders.

The other reason why i contra with government's plan is to build this project we need a lot of money. And what we know Indonesia is not that rich.

And the other problem is about the skilled worker. To work in that big project, we need so many professional workers to avoid a human error. And the fact is Indonesia doesn't have too many nuclear experts. So it will be a big problem for us.

So, I think instead of using Nuclear Power Plant, Indonesia still can use solar power, geothermal, biomass, wind, ocean current, and waves as the energy sources. With these energy sources we can avoid the risk of nuclear disaster. Even another country that use nuclear as the power source like Japan, Germany, and Swiss had decided to stop using Nuclear Power Plant from now on. Because nuclear is not the rights answer to fulfill the citizen's energy needs.
